Saltspring Island - Favorites

There's a store on Salt Spring that sells these handpainted rubber boots, and one of these years I'm going to spring for a pair in the hopes that they'll bring a little cheer to those rainy winter days. Many of the boots have sheep painted on them, as the island is well known for its sheep farms.
For the best darned Americano (an espresso shot topped up with hot water) this side of Italy...

...head to the Morningside Organic Bakery and Cafe.

The window in the exterior cob wall of the bakery's patio gives you a peek at the wood-fired cob oven inside.

I would love to see this amazing work of art in action!
For some of the very best goat cheese that life has to offer, you've got to make a run to the Saturday farmer's market in downtown Ganges. The market is the best I've ever been too, as Salt Spring is populated with the most incredible artists, farmers, artisans, and craftsmen. I can't decide if my favorite is the one that's covered in peppercorns, or the one with garlic and rosemary (my daughter's favorite is the one with truffles - a pretty refined palate for a 10 year old).
This is a really great store that sells new and used children's books, as well as craft supplies and educational materials - it's like a candy store for homelearners.
Salt Spring Soapworks carries a lot of fun, handmade soaps and bathtime treats - the bubble machine that's always running outside really adds to the ambiance.
We thought the "Soaphenge" display in their front window was pretty clever.
The perfect way to wrap up a morning of marketing - lunch at the Treehouse Cafe.
I love their Roasted Yam Quesadilla (with honey lime sauce and pumpkin seeds), and my husband swears they make the best burgers he's ever had.
Are you making your travel plans yet?

I forgot to say WELCOME BACK! Glad you had a good time. Those stores sound great, maybe someday I can make my way there.

Humour - Thank you!

Phelan - Thanks for welcoming me back. As great as holidays are, it's always nice to sleep in my own bed again (I'm finding that tenting gets less comfortable with every passing year)!
:)

I didn't know you worked for the Salt Spring Island Chamber of Commerce? Are you getting an honourarium? (sp)
