Wood Stove Love

The wood stove is finally in! It was a lot more work than we anticipated, though we shouldn't really be surprised by that anymore.
The biggest part of the installation was removing a row of bricks from the surround so it would fit inside our existing fireplace (I was cleaning up brick dust for a week!). We also had to wait for several weeks for the right parts to come in (shorter feet to help make it fit the space, and a custom made flue adapter).

My stubborn husband was so determined to get it installed last night, that after cutting the old damper out, and struggling with getting the liner around a curve in the chimney and into the top of the stove, he headed up on to the roof at 12:30 (a.m. - I'm surprised the neighbors didn't call the police) to put the cap on the flue liner.

I have to admit that sitting by the fire tonight made up for being awake until almost 2:00 in the morning.

Jotul makes gorgeous, efficient wood stoves, and I love that they're made from recycled iron. With the crazy weather that we've been having this winter, at least now we can be sure that we won't freeze if the power goes out. Temperatures are supposed to go down below freezing again for the next few days, so it looks like it will be getting lots of use.

Better go buy some marshmallows!

Ohhhhhh. What a worthwhile effort on many levels and not excluding the lovely look of the fire burning. Such a nice photo. You bought this used, is that correct?

It's beautiful too! That is one thing that is going into my dream home, a wood stove. I've been looking at the Jotul for a while. They seem to be the best in my opinion.

Your husband is a maniac. On the roof at 12:30 in the morning! Although, mine has been known to run naked into the back yard with a BB gun to break up a cat fight in the wee hours of the morning.(this was when our cat was still living and others were coming into our yard to fight with him and believe me, no cats were actually hit with the BB gun, I think it was just for effect)

We're bracing for the freezing cold as well. We've had nothing but fog for the last week or so. Freezing fog actually...it's really nice.(not really)

Enjoy your stove and have a marshmallow for me.

It's beautiful! I love your wood stove. Looks like such a cozy fire. Aren't husbands great? I sure wouldn't get on the roof in the middle of the night, but my husband (like yours)would, and did... to remove a bunch of leaves out of our gutters during a wind/rain storm earlier this winter. He went barefoot, and in swim shorts because he figured he was going to get wet anyways!

Enjoy your stove and fire!

I adore our Jotul. We're so glad the last owners of this house had the good sense to buy a quality stove.

Enjoy it! :)

What a lovely looking wood stove. Apparently there's more cold weather on the way, so I'm sure you'll have lots of opportunity to enjoy.

Steffi - Now that sounds like a grand idea!
I'd be happy to be on your blog list - thank you!

Lu - Yes, it's 3 years old, but is in great shape. I can't believe how lucky we were to find it.

Monica - Thanks!

Chelee - Naked carrying a BB gun, now there's a visual.

Eva - Hilarious - that's guy logic if I ever heard it!

Liz - I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your Jotul. Hopefully we'll be as thrilled with ours!

Carla - It was beautiful out today, but it's frosty tonight. So far it's been keeping us toasty.

Molly - Thank you! :)

Debbie - There's nothing like wood heat!

OOoh, jealous.

The woodstove we got from Freecycle is still sitting in our shed. And probably will be forever. We'd have to knock out a whole wall in order to have the appropriate space.

I hate being broke.

Nio - I hope you get it in there one day soon!
