We have actually seen some hens fight back when a hawk tries to get them so maybe....<br />Also, we had a duck that was attacked by a raccoon or possum earlier this spring. She looked as if she lost and eye and had some serious bite marks around her head. We cleaned it all up as best we could and thought, like you, she'd be dead in a day or two. Nope...5 weeks later she's still kicking and looks as if her eye functions quite well.
